Shiratori, Ninzaburou

Summary

Ninzaburou Shiratori made his debut in the first film, The Clockwork Skyscraper, serving as a member of Inspector Megure’s police force. Initially appearing only in movie roles where he played key parts in the first three Detective Conan films, he eventually transitioned into a full-fledged inspector within the series. As a child, Shiratori studied hard with the goal of becoming a lawyer, even memorizing laws by heart. His path changed when he witnessed a young girl confronting two juveniles attempting to steal mangas from a bookstore. To thank him for his assistance, the girl bought him a drink and created a sakura petal pattern from the straw wrapper, explaining that sakura symbolizes courage for Japanese police due to the shape of their badges. Inspired by this incident, Shiratori decided to join the police force instead of pursuing law. He later joined the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department and worked alongside Inspector Megure, initially acting as an extra officer or simply as eyes on the case before becoming an inspector himself. When Satou Miwako joined the department, Shiratori believed he had found his childhood love again. Consequently, he and his younger colleague Takagi viewed each other as rivals for her affections. Shiratori often tried to impress Takagi by asking Satou on dates, but she consistently rejected him, much to his dismay. He has since begun dating Kobayashi Sumiko, whom he has realized is his true love. As a police officer, Shiratori is fairly average. He remains calmer during investigations than Takagi or Satou. Like them, he acknowledges Conan’s exceptional intelligence for his age, but unlike his colleagues, he generally disregards Conan’s opinions. He often feels Conan gets in the way, although Conan invariably proves him wrong. However, unlike Kogorou, Shiratori will take notice and suspect something if Conan points out something particularly interesting. While his attitude can seem cocky when competing for Satou’s affection, he appears more modest otherwise, such as in the first Detective Conan movies or when he is with his current girlfriend, Kobayashi Sensei.
