Summary
Kimihito Watanuki is a high school student whose life has been fraught with hardship. Orphaned and living alone, he suffers from a hereditary condition that allows him to see spirits, a trait compounded by his blood’s irresistible scent to the supernatural. Seeking relief from this torment, he makes a pact with Yuuko to work as her assistant in exchange for a wish to never see spirits again. This agreement initiates his tenure as her indignant, indentured servant, who cooks wonderfully, cleans diligently, and complains constantly, while also pulling him into the fate-driven "hitsuzen" of a chance encounter with the quartet from Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. Watanuki possesses a volatile yet caring nature, with emotions that fluctuate wildly depending on his audience. With Himawari, he is effusive, leaping into the air with squeals of affection. In contrast, his interactions with Domeki are marked by irritation, expressed through screaming and frantic gestures that remind Himawari of an angry cat. Aside from these two and Yuuko, he typically addresses others with formal kindness. Early in the series, Watanuki struggles with a profound lack of self-worth, viewing himself as having no value and frequently risking his life to aid others. Through his work at Yuuko’s shop, however, he begins to navigate the occult and his own role within it.
