Kingdom Special Hits 7% as Conan, Slime & One Piece Hold the Chart

Japan’s latest Kanto household ratings put a temporary spotlight on Kingdom. The one-night special Kingdom: Shin to Ō Ki to Shogun, timed to the newest live-action film, aired Friday night on NTV and pulled a strong 7.0%—well clear of the usual weekend animation pack.

Among regularly scheduled series for the week of July 13–19, the old guard still rules the roost. Sazae-san led with 5.9%, followed by Detective Conan at 4.6% and Chibi Maruko-chan at 4.2%. Genre television held its own further down the list: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3 landed 3.0% in its late-night NTV slot.

Three very different shows then tied at 2.3%: Star Detective Precure!, the current One Piece run, and The Classroom of a Black Cat and a Witch. Elsewhere on the dial, a daytime Anpanman film block logged 2.0%, while a Saturday Akira broadcast on NHK Educational drew 1.0%.

As always, these Video Research figures only capture live viewing in the Kanto region—not recordings or streaming—so they read more like a snapshot of appointment TV than a full popularity scoreboard. Even so, the week underlines a familiar pattern: perpetual favorites still own Sunday evenings, while a big-event Kingdom special can still punch through and own a Friday prime-time window.
