Just Like Mona Lisa Casts Chika Anzai as Lead Hinase Arima

Tsumuji Yoshimura’s tender gender-identity romance Just Like Mona Lisa (Seibetsu “Mona Lisa” no Kimi e.) has named its star. Chika Anzai—known for Chisato Nishikigi in Lycoris Recoil and Reina Kousaka in Sound! Euphonium—will voice Hinase Arima, the third-year who reaches eighteen still living without a chosen gender in a world where everyone else settles that question around age twelve.

The reveal landed with a new teaser trailer and the show’s main staff slate. Kana Shundo directs at SHAFT, with Nobuhiro Sugiyama on character design and chief animation direction and Yuki Hayashi (My Hero Academia, Medalist) scoring the series. CyberAgent is producing; the adaptation was first teased under the codename “Project M.”

Anzai called the audition a lasting jolt that made her rethink not only Hinase but “what it means to be human,” and she framed the part as both an honor and a serious responsibility. She also noted that Yoshimura joins every recording session—comforting news for fans of a manga that has already topped one million copies in print.

SHAFT’s take aims to carry over the manga’s signature two-color emotional palette into motion, turning a quiet first-love triangle with childhood friends Ritsu and Shiori into the studio’s next coming-of-age showcase.
