Synopsis

Continues the story of Vinland Saga

In Vinland Saga, the young Thorfinn is raised on stories told by veterans of the legendary Vinland, a lush and wealthy land far from the harsh, frozen Icelandic village of his birth. Contrary to these idyllic visions, Thorfinn's reality is that of a mercenary, with violence as his constant shadow. His father once taught him, "You have no enemies. Nobody does. There is no one it is acceptable to harm," but as Thorfinn matures, he struggles to reconcile this philosophy with the brutal world he inhabits. As tensions between England and the Danes escalate annually, death becomes commonplace. Viking warriors revel in combat, driven by the desire for glory and gold, knowing their allegiance can swing the tide of battle. Amidst this turmoil, Thorfinn is consumed by a singular quest: to exact revenge on Askeladd, the killer of his father. For these Vikings, it appears that the only true paradise exists within this perpetual era of war and bloodshed.

In this installment

Following the loss of his father and the devastation of his village by English invaders, Einar harbors a dream of restoring his family's farm and living in tranquility. These aspirations are shattered when Danish raiders assault his home once more, incinerating his house and slaughtering his kin. Captured and transported to Denmark as a slave, Einar clings to his mother's final instruction to survive by any means necessary. Purchased by Ketil, a benevolent farmer who employs slaves, Einar finds an opportunity to labor in the fields with the goal of earning his freedom. There, he encounters Thorfinn, another slave burdened by profound emptiness and grief. As they toil side by side toward liberation, both are tormented by their traumatic histories and current struggles. Despite enduring relentless hardship and suffering, they maintain a fragile hope for redemption and peace within a world dominated by cruelty and despair.
