Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit

Synopsis

As a devastating drought threatens the Shin Yogo Empire with widespread famine, the Star Readers search for a way to save their people. Ancient legends tell of the first emperor and eight warriors who defeated a water demon to end a severe drought and establish the empire. If this water demon were to reappear, slaying it could bring salvation. However, the demon now resides within the body of the emperor's son, Prince Chagum, leading to a royal decree that he must be sacrificed to save the empire. Into this situation steps Balsa, a secretive and highly skilled spear wielder hired as a bodyguard. After saving Chagum from an assassination attempt, she is entrusted by the prince's mother with protecting him from both the emperor and those hunting him. Bound by a solemn vow she made years ago, Balsa accepts the mission. "Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit" follows Balsa's journey as she guards Chagum, exploring themes of life, nature, family, and the bonds formed between people.

Background

Seirei no Moribito is based on Nahoko Uehashi's Moribito novel series. It adapts the first novel in the series, and greatly expands the midsection of the novel.
