The Ribbon Hero Anime Film Locks in August 8 Netflix Premiere

The upcoming anime feature The Ribbon Hero has a firm worldwide streaming date, with Netflix confirming an exclusive premiere on August 8.

Inspired by Osamu Tezuka's classic Princess Knight manga, the film follows Princess Sapphire, who loses everything to the calamity known as Nergal. She arrives in Goldland carrying deep scars, only for the same darkness to threaten her fragile new life. Brushing away tears, she ties her ribbon and takes up the sword as a lone hero determined to defy fate.

Director Yuuki Igarashi makes his feature-length debut at his studio OUTLINE, with character designs by Kei Mochizuki (with cooperation from Mai Yoneyama), animation character design by Issei Arakaki, and music by Satoru Kōsaki and Ryūichi Takada of MONACA. Comedian Saaya of the duo Lalande voices Sapphire in her first leading role in a feature animated production.

The film previously appeared in the non-competitive Annecy Presents section at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Additional staff includes art direction by Cédric Hérole, Nergal design by okama, and sound direction by Keiichirō Miyoshi. The project blends Tezuka's timeless themes with fresh talent for a heartfelt action story arriving on Netflix next month.
