Kadokawa Teams With Marvel for Spider-Man of Shibuya & More Manga

Marvel Comics and Japanese publishing giant Kadokawa have locked in a new manga partnership, revealed at the Marvel Fanfare panel during San Diego Comic-Con 2026 and amplified by creator posts over the weekend. The flagship title is Spider-Man of Shibuya, a Tokyo-set reimagining from mangaka tokitokoro (Jeff the Land Shark, Lynx), who also shared concept looks for a Shinjuku-style Daredevil and a yakuza-flavored Punisher.
According to reports out of the panel, the collaboration is slated for about five original manga volumes, with serialization expected to begin before the end of 2026. Creator Ryūsei Yamada (Revenger, Disney Twisted-Wonderland anthology work) will handle a Spider-Gwen series under the same umbrella, expanding the lineup beyond a single hero spotlight.
The timing is strategic. Shueisha’s contract with Walt Disney Japan for Marvel character manga ends on September 30, after which titles such as Spider-Man: Octo-Girl, Spider-Man: Kizuna, and Deadpool: Samurai are set to leave digital storefronts. With Sho-Pro’s Marvel comics deal already wrapped earlier this year, Kadokawa steps into a wide-open lane for Japan-original Marvel storytelling.
Industry watchers also note Marvel’s recent editorial shuffle: outgoing Editor-in-Chief C.B. Cebulski is shifting into an “Asia Originals” role—exactly the kind of beat this Kadokawa line seems built for. Fans hungry for a web-slinger born in Shibuya won’t have long to wait for first chapters.
