Gintama Yoshiwara Film Burns Onto Netflix August 27

Netflix has locked an August 27 streaming bow for Gintama the Movie 2026: Yoshiwara in Flames (Shin-Gekijōban Gintama: Yoshiwara Daienjō), giving international fans a theatrical-scale return to the franchise’s infamous red-light district arc. The announcement arrives months after the feature’s February 13 Japanese release, where it opened at No. 2 with roughly 262,700 tickets and about ¥405.6 million (around US$2.64 million) across its first three days.

Built from the TV anime’s episodes 139–146, the film is more than a straight recut. BN Pictures packs the arc with newly animated sequences and characters who never appeared in the original run, including Enkaku—close aide to Hōsen—voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi. Naoya Ando directs from a script by Taku Kishimoto, with longtime Gintama helmer Yōichi Fujita supervising and Shinji Takeuchi on character design and chief animation direction.

Rock band SUPER BEAVER supplies the theme “Sanzen” (Sparkling), underscoring a story that still hinges on Gintoki and friends diving into Yoshiwara’s shadows to reunite a boy with his mother. For viewers who missed the cinema window—or want another trip through Hideaki Sorachi’s chaotic Edo—the Netflix drop turns a domestic box-office contender into a worldwide binge date.
