Unaffected, Lugia flees, but Satoshi leaps onto its back with determination. To his surprise, he meets another boy, Gou, who has also jumped onto Lugia's back. Together, they ride Lugia on a wild adventure across the seas. When Lugia sets them back on land, Satoshi and Gou say goodbye to Lugia and return to Sakuragi Institute. Impressed by Gou's observations and Satoshi's insights from their encounter, Sakuragi asks the duo to become his new research partners. Thus begins their journey, traveling across multiple regions to encounter many new Pokémon—including those capable of Gigantamax!

As John continues to request Sherlock's assistance with his case, he finds himself drawn into the detective lifestyle of solving cases beyond the comprehension of ordinary people.
