Synopsis
Several centuries after the events of the original series, Yamato 2520 documents the story of the eighteenth vessel to carry the Yamato name and its struggle against the Seiren Federation. On a planet tightly ruled by the Serien Federation, a group of Earth teenagers find the abandoned wreck of the Earth Federation Battleship Yamato. By taking its data disk, the teenagers are able to employ the Serien's own automated shipyards to assemble a new Yamato.
Background
Yamato 2520 was Yoshinobu Nishizaki's attempt at a sequel to Space Battleship Yamato, set several hundred years after the original series. However, Nishizaki was sued by Leiji Matsumoto for breach of copyright. Ultimately, Yamato 2520 was left unfinished after only three episodes (of planned ten) were released. The episodes came out on VHS and LaserDisc for home media.
