Since childhood, Chihiro Furuya has been obsessed with zombies, dreaming of having an undead partner. His fascination becomes practical when his cat, Baabu, is hit by a car, prompting Chihiro to create a resurrection elixir in hopes of reviving the pet. While experimenting, he meets Rea Sanka, a wealthy girl who releases her frustrations about her oppressive home life by shouting into an abandoned well. After bonding with her, Rea encourages Chihiro to continue his work, and he eventually succeeds using poisonous hydrangeas from her family’s garden. Unaware that the potion works, Rea drinks it hoping to end her suffering, believing it will kill her. Instead, the potion’s magic interacts with a fatal accident, causing her to rise as a zombie. With Chihiro’s help, she tries to navigate her new existence. Though this might seem perfect for a boy seeking a zombie girlfriend, life in Sankarea becomes increasingly strange as Chihiro must manage Rea’s unusual new appetites and the unexpected consequences of her transformation.

This OVA series consists of two episodes, each packaged as a bonus DVD with volumes 6 and 7 of the manga. The first OVA is a prequel written by the manga's creator, showing how Rea and Chihiro first crossed paths before the main story—at an outdoor hot-spring bath. The second OVA is set after the series (effectively serving as episode 14). The Furuya family discovers a mysterious young girl hiding beneath the household temple.

This bonus episode, featured on the sixth BD/DVD volume and effectively serving as episode 13, depicts Rea's zombie abilities proving useful despite her decaying condition, both at school and at home. Meanwhile, Babu develops an interest in another cat—though this cat is among the living.

As the 21st century approaches its third decade, humans have mostly forgotten the existence of youkai. When a series of inexplicable phenomena sows confusion and chaos among the adult world, thirteen-year-old Mana writes to the Youkai Post seeking answers, and is met by none other than Gegege no Kitarou.

According to legend, a gigantic spider once terrorized Tokyo centuries ago, and no one could stop the destruction it caused. The chaos was eventually ended by a single man—a famed exorcist who used his divine abilities to trap the monster in a seal, and the world has remained peaceful ever since. Mizuki Henmi, a teenage girl, knows Shu Suzuri, a lackluster young man who runs a vintage Japanese bookshop. During an ordinary visit, Mizuki finds out about a rare and costly book that Shu intends to sell. But the impulsive Mizuki grabs the book too carelessly, breaking its seal and unleashing a strange creature—a charming little spider. Wasurenagumo follows Mizuki, Shu, and their apparently harmless spider. Yet unsettling changes begin to stir. While Shu becomes enamored with his eight-legged companion, Mizuki grows suspicious of every move it makes.

In Doumori, the balance of spiritual energy has been disrupted, threatening to throw the small town into utter disorder. Fortunately, for the pupils at Doumori Elementary School, the new teacher and exorcist Meisuke "Nube" Nueno is resolved to stop the evil spirits—referred to as youkai—from carrying out their malicious schemes. The first child to draw Nube's notice is transfer student Hiroshi Tateno, who shows inexplicable fits of rage, frequently attacking his fellow classmates. When it is discovered that a youkai has possessed Hiroshi, Nube succeeds in freeing his student thanks to the demonic power sealed within his left hand. However, a youkai disguised as Dr. Kyousuke Tamano bursts onto the scene and swiftly kidnaps Hiroshi. With the help of his student Kyouko Inaba and his knowledge of the supernatural, Nube quickly uncovers Kyousuke's sinister intentions. Rushing to rescue Hiroshi, Nube proves once again that he will go to any lengths to protect his beloved students from all paranormal dangers.

Nube is a clumsy, easygoing, and deeply kind teacher, but beneath the glove on his left hand lies a secret: a monster hand. He also has the ability to perceive ghosts and evil spirits, and he uses his monstrous hand to protect his beloved students from these malevolent entities, proving himself to be immensely powerful.

Since childhood, Saiki Misaki could see ghosts. Now working at an S&M club, she uses her free time to send spirits to the afterlife by making them realize they are dead and must move on. This task would supposedly be a bit easier if not for her own background of hardship and loneliness... and a perverted employer.

Hiyorimi Hiro moves to a new city to live with his older sister, but dies before he can locate her. He awakens to a new existence as a servant of a Princess of the Monster Realm, who is already employing his sister. Monsters soon begin attacking or harassing the princess because she is in line for the royal throne, forcing Hiro to protect her at the cost of his life—and his repeated deaths.

Meisuke "Nube" Nueno, an occult specialist and educator at Doumori Elementary School, is struggling more than ever to shield his pupils from ominous forces. Though Nube successfully resolves that incident, the chain of improbable events hints that a far greater threat may be endangering Doumori's peace. To safeguard those he cares about, Nube must confront his own past demons and unveil the true nature of the approaching supernatural menace.

A family and their maid are living their ordinary lives when, without warning, a woman bursts into their home shouting, "They're coming!" She then vomits out her organs, turns into a zombie, and attacks the master of the house. The maid rescues her employer, but he and his daughter are in shock and have trouble processing what happened. As more and more zombies invade the residence, the maid decides it is her duty to protect the house from intruders—by using a chainsaw!

The sardonic ghost Tatami-chan, originally from Iwate Prefecture, now resides in Tokyo alongside other spirits, supernatural beings, and humans in this pleasant horror gag comedy. Beyond navigating the afterlife, the unemployed Tatami-chan must also contend with the practical struggles of job hunting and paying for utilities like gas, water, and electricity.

Kitarou, a yokai, uses his unique abilities to assist humans in distress during his existence. Simultaneously, he opposes malevolent spirits dedicated to harassing humanity.

In the inaugural season, comprising 25 episodes, the narrative centers on a male office worker who checks into a hotel after commuting home by train. There, he meets the enigmatic proprietor, an elderly mouse named Gregory, who encourages him to make a longer stay. As the man attempts to flee this strange purgatory, he finds himself increasingly entangled in the peculiar occurrences unfolding within Gregory House.

Shigeo Kageyama, an eighth-grader known as Mob, discovered his immense psychic abilities early in life.
