The narrative centers on Elk, a bounty hunter navigating a peculiar futuristic world where ancient yet sophisticated technology coexists with primitive customs, magical creatures, and beasts—essentially a setting blending many elements. Naming him Reg, Riko suspects the advanced technology within him must come from the depths of the Abyss. Together, they embark on a journey into the abyssal darkness: Reg searches for his lost memories, while Riko is resolved to reach the bottom herself. However, they remain ignorant of the brutal realities that await them in the unforgiving world of the Abyss.

Around the year 2011, a segment of humanity began to manifest telekinetic abilities called Cantus. A millennium later, in the village of Kamisu 66, Saki Watanabe is the final member of her cohort to awaken these powers and enter the Sage Academy, an institution dedicated to Cantus users. Despite every student possessing such abilities, true equality remains elusive; shortly after Saki starts her education, a classmate deemed less powerful vanishes without a trace.
