Duke Milian Pastellio, the ruler of the cold, demon-ridden territory of Zentar, is deeply unsettled when he learns that his fiancée, Karina Leopold, has arrived unannounced. As Milian grows fond of Karina, he desperately seeks a cure for her symptoms and tries to ease her suffering. Grateful for Milian's efforts, Karina hesitates to reveal the full truth: she has the rarest form of art disease, and no treatment can prevent her impending death.
