Igano Kabamaru follows Kagemaro, a naive ninja from Iga whose remarkable stealth earns him the nickname "absolute shadow." Because of his endless appetite, he is also called Kabamaru, which translates to "hippo's mouth." Following the death of his strict grandfather and instructor, Kabamaru moves to Tokyo alongside one of his grandfather's acquaintances. The story unfolds as Kabamaru, raised in the countryside, tries to adapt to city life and becomes caught up in a rivalry between two private schools.
