In human hearts, negative energy sometimes finds a place to settle. This negativity can eventually develop into monster-like beings that can only be handled by "Sweepers"—special individuals who can banish them and restore calm. Kyuutarou Horikita comes from a family of Sweepers, though most of his classmates at Kurokado High School see the second-year student as a grumpy boy obsessed with cleaning. While exploring the old school building, he encounters a sleeping girl named Fumi Nishioka, a new transfer student who, it turns out, has no home to return to. When Kyuutarou and his family realize that Fumi is capable of fighting against negative infestations, they invite her to stay with them as a live-in housekeeper and start training her as an apprentice Sweeper. Yet, just as negative energy can reside in human hearts, a hidden power sleeps within Fumi, and a malicious group intends to exploit it for their own purposes.
