An animated adaptation of Yanase Takashi's picture book, this story centers on the bond between a mother dog named Muku-muku, who has lost her puppy, and a baby lion named Buru-buru, who has lost her mother. Although Tezuka Osamu envisioned creating a full musical animated series for this tale focusing on the emotions of the mother dog and the baby lion, this particular animated production was the only one that was never finished.
In 1998, a revised version was released with altered dialogue, newly recorded audio featuring different voice actors, and a modified final scene.
