Chibikko Remi to Meiken Kapi

Synopsis

This film adaptation of Hector Malot's "Sans Famille" follows Remi, who is sold to Vitalis, a wandering musician with a troupe of performing animals. The movie includes characteristic Toei-style musical numbers, slapstick comedy, numerous emotional moments, and remarkably fluid animation. Despite these technical strengths, the story can feel overly dramatic and sentimental. In contrast, the later 52-episode series by Dezaki and Sugino delivers a more fully realized narrative and more compelling storytelling.
