Yofukashi no Uta

Kou Yamori looks like an ordinary middle school student, keeping up decent grades and friendly interactions with classmates while carefully maintaining this front. But eventually, he decides to drop this act and stops attending school, which leaves him with severe insomnia from a lack of daytime activities to burn off his energy. Taking walks at night helps a little, but Kou still worries about his ongoing sleep troubles. One evening, during one of these nighttime strolls, Kou meets an unusual girl named Nazuna Nanakusa. She identifies the cause of his insomnia, noting that even though he changed his lifestyle, he still holds back from fully embracing freedom. Nazuna says true rest will only come when he finds satisfaction in his daily life. After seemingly addressing his concerns, she invites him to her apartment to share her futon. Unaware to Kou, who is pretending to sleep, Nazuna leans over and bites his neck.

Background

Yofukashi no Uta was published in English as Call of the Night by VIZ Media under the Shonen Sunday imprint from April 13, 2021, to June 10, 2025, as well as simulpub through VIZ Manga. It was also published in Italian by Edizioni BD under the J-Pop imprint from May 18, 2022, to May 7, 2025. The series won the 68th Shogakukan Manga Award in the Shounen category in 2023, along with Ao no Orchestra.
