Yan You is originally a web comic released on the author's Weibo account since April 2020, officially serialized on various web platforms since July 31, 2021, and published in print by Guangdong Travel & Tourism Press (廣東旅遊出版社) since August 2022. The series has been published digitally in English as Salt Friend by Manta since December 7, 2022.
