Yuuta Okkotsu has carried a heavy burden ever since his childhood friend Rika died in a traffic accident, leaving her spirit bound to him and transformed into a powerful, violent force that fiercely protects him. Unable to control Rika's destructive outbursts, Yuuta helplessly watches as she attacks with vengeance, causing widespread devastation. When Jujutsu sorcerers—those tasked with protecting humanity from such threats—apprehend him, Yuuta longs only for isolation to keep others safe. But Satoru Gojou, the sorcerer who captures Yuuta, offers a different path: Yuuta must enroll at Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School to learn how to control Rika and use her power to help others. As a new student, Yuuta delves into the study of Jujutsu techniques and confronts malevolent entities. Alongside his classmates Maki Zenin, who wields cursed tools; Toge Inumaki, whose words become powerful spells; and Panda, a speaking panda, Yuuta gradually finds his place in this new world and begins to feel at ease with his abilities. Yet, as his training progresses, Yuuta learns that the dangers in the Jujutsu world go far beyond just malevolent spirits.

Background

Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Koutou Senmon Gakkou is the prototype serialization of Jujutsu Kaisen. The story remains canon to the main series and it features a different central cast. Character designs used in this prototype were later altered in the main series; for instance, Toge Inumaki's initial design was later used for Jujutsu Kaisen's main protagonist Yuuji Itadori, while Toge underwent a redesign. It was published in English as Jujutsu Kaisen 0 by VIZ Media under the Shounen Jump imprint on January 5, 2021.
