Five centuries before the events of Saiyuuki, a golden-eyed child arrives in Heaven and is branded a heretic. The child is placed under the reluctant care of Konzen, a lesser deity and niece of the benevolent goddess Kanzeon Bosatsu. Konzen names the child Goku. Goku forms bonds with Marshal Tenpou and General Kenren of Heaven's Western Army, and also meets a mysterious boy of the same age, the War Prince Nataku. Though Goku finds happiness in this new life, Heaven's harsh persecution of heretics puts them in danger. Certain factions plot to use both Nataku and Goku to seize Heaven's throne, leaving Konzen, Tenpou, and Kenren possibly unable to protect them.
