Ningen Shikkaku

In the process of creating a shounen manga, manga artist Usamaru Furuya discovers a website known as No Longer Human, which serves as an online journal penned by a man named Youzou Ooba. Through his posts, Youzou reflects on a life marked by disappointment, particularly his descent from a popular and successful high school student to a disheveled, prematurely gray-haired man at just 25 years old. Captivated by the profound sense of cynicism, isolation, and longing conveyed in the diary, Furuya continues to read and eventually uses their artistic talents to illustrate the poignant story of this troubled soul.

Ningen Shikkaku is an adaptation of Dazai Osamu's novel of the same title, originally published in 1948. The series was published in English as No Longer Human by Vertical from October 25, 2011, to February 28, 2012, in a left-to-right format. Kodansha USA later released a complete omnibus edition on November 1, 2022.
