In Takemitsuzamurai, the ronin Souichirou Senou arrives at the Katagi Apartments, where the residents initially view him with suspicion. His genuine, innocent curiosity about life, however, allows him to connect with Kankichi, the carpenter's son. With Kankichi's assistance, Souichirou begins building a new existence in Edo's tenement district and exchanges his treasured sword, Kunifusa, for a bamboo blade, signifying his pledge to avoid violence. Despite this resolve, steering clear of conflict in Edo proves difficult for Souichirou. He soon draws the notice of the relentless assassin Shinnosuke Kikuchi, who takes pleasure in eliminating anyone who obstructs him. Each time Souichirou is forced to defend himself or the tenants, he reignites the violent impulses of his past and stirs up memories he wishes to forget.

Background

Takemitsuzamurai was published in Spanish by Ediciones Glénat from October 2009 to December 2012. The manga won the Excellence Prize in the manga division at the 11th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2007, along with the Grand Prize at the 15th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2011. It was nominated for Best Comic at the 2012 Angoulême International Comics Festival.
