At age fifteen, Shuugo "Sougorou Matsukawa" Azuma—the heir to the renowned Tamano kabuki dynasty—is hailed as a child acting prodigy. His bloated ego leads him to dismiss other performers his age, until he watches a performance by Junpei "Gensuke Arai" Noda, the heir of the Ootani family. Struck by Gensuke's skill, Sougorou commits himself to honing his craft, determined to eventually surpass his rival. Two years later, Sougorou discovers that Gensuke is not only a classmate but has also been monitoring his progress. Driven to outshine Gensuke, Sougorou pours everything into his most important role yet, only to receive a tepid response from the audience. Defeated, Sougorou is granted an unexpected opportunity—one that irritates him: partnering with Gensuke to portray a married couple in an upcoming production. Though hesitant at first, Sougorou accepts, believing this collaboration will finally bring him the acclaim he craves. As they work side by side, he realizes that this partnership may elevate both their acting and their connection.
