In the 21st century, a mysterious portal appears in Tokyo's Ginza area, bringing with it soldiers and strange creatures that transform Ginza into a battleground. This gateway connects Japan to another world, one governed by an expansionist empire teeming with supernatural entities. The Japanese Self-Defense Force sends a small reconnaissance unit, led by an otaku soldier, through the gate to collect information on the empire, its plans, the world, and its inhabitants. Upon arrival, they immediately come across a village devastated by a massive dragon breathing flames. They find an injured elf girl who had hidden herself in a well. Feeling compelled to help, they decide to warn nearby communities about the dragon and provide aid where possible. As they travel, they meet other magical female allies and gradually learn more about the dangerous new world they've entered.
