Synopsis

Continues the story of GATE

While off duty, Japan Self-Defense Forces officer and devoted otaku Youji Itami heads to a doujin convention in Tokyo's Ginza district when a colossal gate suddenly manifests. Through this portal rush medieval warriors and fantastical creatures, unleashing chaos and heavy casualties upon the city. Itami springs into action to protect civilians as the JSDF mobilizes to drive back the invaders. Three months later, Itami is tasked with commanding a special reconnaissance unit within a JSDF task force. Their objective is to cross into the "Special Region" beyond the gate, explore this unfamiliar world, forge diplomatic ties with its people, and negotiate peace with the ruling empire. Failure to secure this alliance leaves both worlds on the brink of total war.

In this installment

Half a year has passed since the events of the Ginza Incident, and the friction between the Empire and the JSDF continues to mount within the sprawling, enigmatic Special Region as peace talks stall. Meanwhile, the world's major nations grow increasingly intrigued—and avaricious—upon learning just how far behind the magical realm's ancient societies are in terms of technology. In the midst of this, Lieutenant Youji Itami and his eclectic group of female companions find themselves entangled in the intricate power struggles plaguing the Empire's royal court. Princess Piña Co Lada works tirelessly to persuade her father that the JSDF poses no threat of conquest to their homeland, though her efforts yield little progress. Caught between pressures from both sides of the Gate, Itami is forced to weigh far more extreme options in order to see his mission through.
