Mitsumi Iwakawa moves from her small hometown in Ishikawa Prefecture to attend a prestigious high school in Tokyo. Her goal is to eventually enter law school and become a public servant, but she also wants to enjoy herself and make friends. To guarantee her success, she carefully planned every aspect of her high school experience, yet her well-made plans go awry on her very first day. While hurrying to the entrance ceremony, where she is supposed to give a speech for the incoming class, Mitsumi mistakenly goes past her train stop and risks being late. In her panic, she meets Sousuke Shima, another tardy first-year student, who offers to guide her to school. Although they manage to arrive, Mitsumi faces a series of mishaps that damage her first impression on others. Despite these obstacles, her classmates quickly notice a budding connection between Mitsumi and Sousuke, even though their personalities differ. As the school year begins with unexpected events, Mitsumi is eager to get to know her fellow students and take part in school activities. It remains uncertain whether this newcomer from the countryside will succeed in the busy city, but one thing is clear: she will go through her journey with friends by her side.

Skip to Loafer won the 47th Kodansha Manga Award in the General category in 2023. The series has been published in English as Skip and Loafer by Seven Seas Entertainment since August 10, 2021. It has also been released in Spanish by Milky Way Ediciones since May 31, 2022.
