In "Ballad of a Shinigami," the shinigami Momo has the duty of guiding souls who are about to pass away. She defies the usual image of a death god in black robes carrying a scythe, instead appearing in a pure white dress, sickle, and hair. With her feline companion, a black cat called Daniel, Momo fulfills her purpose by showing herself to those on the verge of death, soothing their last moments and assisting them in crossing over with ease. She also brings comfort to the people left behind, especially in moments of loss or disaster.
