Kakeru Ashiya and Yamato Oohara have been friends since childhood, but their personalities couldn't be more different. Kakeru is outgoing and friendly, though he always seems to fail surprise quizzes. He often watches Yamato, who is handsome and talented but has trouble making friends despite his abilities. Kakeru finds it strange that Yamato keeps turning down all the girls who confess to him. One day, while the two are alone in a classroom, Kakeru decides to ask Yamato about his private life. Yamato gives vague answers, and in a sudden moment, he almost lets his feelings slip—a subtle confession that Kakeru understands right away. But Kakeru chooses not to accept it. Because of this, Yamato, who has secretly been in love with Kakeru for years, starts to worry that he may never be able to reach his friend's heart.
