During a business meeting, 26-year-old Tsugumi Kawano is startled to come across Itsuki Ayukawa, her former high school classmate and first love. Learning that Ayukawa has realized his ambition of becoming an architect while she has settled into a role at an interior design company fills her with happiness. Yet, their reunion takes an unforeseen turn when Tsugumi discovers that Ayukawa now uses a wheelchair following an accident. Aware of the difficulties involved in pursuing a relationship with someone who has a disability, Tsugumi remains cautious, especially since Ayukawa firmly avoids romantic entanglements. Despite these reservations, as Tsugumi spends more time with Ayukawa and gains insight into his circumstances, she starts to realize that her feelings for him may still remain.

Background

Perfect World won the 43th Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo category in 2019. The series has been published digitally in English by Kodansha Comics USA from March 20, 2018 to July 5, 2022, and in print from April 18, 2022 to July 12, 2022. It was published in French by Akata from October 16, 2016 to May 27, 2021; in German by Egmont Manga & Anime from May 3, 2018 to November 5, 2021; in Italian by Star Comics from March 8, 2019 to September 22, 2021; in Indonesian by m&c!; and in Spanish by ECC Ediciones and Panini Comics. Perfect World was adapted into a film which premiered on October 18, 2018. It was later re-adapted into a Japanese television drama that aired on Fuji TV and Kansai TV from April 16, 2019 to June 25, 2019.
