In "Chihayafuru," Chihaya Ayase, a determined yet scattered girl overshadowed by her older sibling, and Taichi Mashima, a naturally gifted but insecure boy burdened by his mother’s high standards, experience a significant change when Arata Wataya joins their class. Motivated by Arata’s ambition to excel in competitive karuta, a game based on a traditional collection of one hundred Japanese poems, Chihaya becomes deeply passionate about the sport. Driven by a desire not to be outdone by the talented Arata, Taichi also dedicates himself to mastering karuta, aiming to eventually outshine his rival. The trio devotes their youth to practicing karuta daily, until circumstances eventually lead them to part ways. Years later, in high school, the three friends are brought back together through their shared interest in competitive karuta. Alongside new companions and adversaries, they embark on a path of personal growth, camaraderie, and blossoming relationships.
