バッカーノ!

In 1711, aboard the ship Advenna Avis, a group of alchemists summons a demon to obtain eternal life. The demon gives them an elixir of immortality and reveals that the only way to end their existence is by consuming one another. Soon after, one of the alchemists begins devouring his companions. Recognizing the danger of remaining together, they scatter across the world. Fast forward to 1930s America, where a dedicated federal agent fights the rising tide of organized crime during Prohibition, aims to lock up a troublesome terrorist in Alcatraz, and capture a pair of bold thieves. Meanwhile, the transcontinental train called the Flying Pussyfoot leaves a bloody trail across the country. In 2002, a few survivors from the Advenna Avis gather to find the remaining alchemists who share their immortality. But they encounter one former ally they least expected to see again. What initially seem like unrelated events—from a quiet Italian village in the early 1700s to a modern luxury cruise crossing the Pacific—slowly unfold to reveal a much deeper connection than anyone imagined.

Background

Baccano! won the Dengeki Novel Gold Prize in 2002. Two drama CDs were released; the first was 1931 The Grand Punk Railroad, a retelling of the second and third novels, released on March 31, 2006. The second was Firo Prochainezo witnesses the 53rd death of Pietro Gonzalez released on October 24, 2007. The series was published in English by Yen Press under the Yen On imprint in hardcover format from May 24, 2016, to May 23, 2023.
