Set at an all-girls kendo academy, this story follows students who are each descended from legendary swordsmen of Japan's past. Among them is Hanyu Jubei, a recent transfer student and heir to the bloodline of the famed Yagyu Jubei. Despite her ancestry, she has never once trained with a blade. On her sixteenth birthday, the school faces off in a friendly match against an all-boys team, who are shocked to find themselves thoroughly beaten by the young girls. For Jubei to claim victory in her own bout, however, she must discover a way to awaken the power of her legendary ancestor.

Background
Shoukan! Kengou Gakuen began as a 4-koma comic serialized in volumes 152 through 158 of the arcade game magazine Arcadia; these comics were included in the volume release as a side story. Official serialization of the series began in volume 159 of Arcadia, and continued until volume 168 when the magazine was discontinued.
