In a remote village where strange animal deaths are occurring, Kohachi Inugami, an expert called in from Tokyo, comes to investigate the mystery. During his stay, he encounters a boy named Kabane, who labors in the fields, and feels a connection to the child. Inugami quickly recruits Kabane to assist with the inquiry. As they explore the peculiar incidents further, Inugami starts to suspect that Kabane might not be entirely human and proposes the boy take a job at his detective agency, which handles supernatural cases.
