In Toradora!, Ryuuji Takasu has a tough-guy appearance that frightens others, even though he is genuinely kind-hearted. His unintentionally fearsome looks make it hard for him to form friendships and especially difficult to find a girlfriend. As his second year of high school begins, things seem promising when his secret crush ends up in the same class. However, his luck takes a turn for the worse when he crosses paths with Aisaka Taiga. Known as the Palmtop Tiger, she is strikingly beautiful yet formidable, standing under five feet tall. Taiga is arguably the most daunting presence at school, and Ryuuji unwittingly manages to enrage her to no end.

In Kadokawa Shoten's first Light Novel Award contest held in 2007, Toradora! won an award in the romantic-comedy category. The series was published in English by Seven Seas Entertainment under the Airship imprint from May 8, 2018, to August 4, 2020. It was also released in Polish by Studio JG as 2-in-1 omnibus volumes from August 25, 2016, to July 20, 2020; and in Brazilian Portuguese by NewPOP Editora from July 6, 2018, to May 13, 2021.
