Ryo Aihara has difficulty socializing and is the only student at her school who doesn't own a mobile phone, believing she wouldn't have anyone to contact. Still, she wishes for one and imagines a perfect device with great attention to detail. Even though her phone exists only in her imagination, Ryo hears a ringtone that nobody else can hear. Torn between hesitation and curiosity, she picks up and finds herself speaking to Shinya Nozaki, a high school boy who explains that he, too, is using a phone he created in his mind. This unusual situation forges a deep bond between Aihara and Nozaki, allowing them to share their secrets with each other.
