In the early Edo period, samurai Toyohisa Shimazu fights fiercely against the powerful Tokugawa forces while covering the retreat of the Shimazu army. After his unit is decimated, he manages to push back the enemy, but is left mortally wounded. Leaving the battlefield in despair, he is mysteriously transported to a white corridor and then thrust through a door. Awakening in an unfamiliar world, he encounters other Drifters—renowned fighters who have also died and been relocated to this realm. Using their past experiences and abilities, these Drifters unite to challenge an empire and fight against an enigmatic evil threatening to destroy humanity.
