In "Berserk: Shinen no Kami 2," Griffith, realizing his injuries prevent him from achieving his ambitions, turns to the Crimson Behelit as a final solution. This triggers the "Eclipse," a ritual where the participant trades something invaluable for extraordinary power. Griffith chooses to sacrifice his devoted followers, the Band of the Hawk. Griffith then descends into the Abyss and encounters a gigantic, god-like being known as the Idea of Evil, which emerged from the shared subconscious of humanity and has guided human history through all earthly occurrences. As Griffith becomes part of human consciousness within the Abyss, the Idea of Evil forebodingly declares, "Your desire is mine... Whether your actions bring suffering or salvation to humankind, do as you please, Chosen One." With this, Griffith harnesses the torment of his comrades to transform himself into his ideal form.

Background

While Chapter 83 of Berserk, "Shinen no Kami (2)," was initially released in Issue 14 of the 1996 Young Animal magazine, it was omitted from the Volume 13 release of Berserk at the author's request (he felt that the chapter gave away too much information too early in the story), making the magazine issue a collector's item.
