In "The Ruler of the Land," Bi-Kwang is a dashing young warrior who becomes infatuated and somewhat dimwitted around attractive women. During his travels, he encounters an unnamed, highly skilled swordswoman looking for a legendary martial arts master. Bi-Kwang volunteers to assist her in exchange for an introduction to her gorgeous sibling. It soon becomes clear that the swordswoman is actually Hwa-Rin Dahm, the sister herself, and she alternates between disguises to progress the narrative. Bi-Kwang is immediately smitten with her, leading to a romantic subplot involving only the two of them. Set in a realm where various factions vie for control over the Murim, Bi-Kwang, despite possessing a natural aptitude for martial arts and lacking interest in them, makes a deal to escort Hwa-Rin to meet her grandfather, the last known witness to his disappearance. Their journey is fraught with adversaries and occasional reunions with old acquaintances. Through their adventures, Bi-Kwang grows and gains insight into the importance of martial arts, recognizing his previous misuse of his abilities.
