Otoha is a 10-year-old girl devastated by the loss of her beloved cat Yoruka. One night in a dream, she encounters the "cat god," said to be the treasured cat of Kobo Daishi. When Otoha prays for Yoruka to be brought back to life, the "cat god" tells her to seek out his disciples at the temples along the pilgrimage route. So begins the elementary school girl's slightly mysterious pilgrimage journey.
