Tamako Love Story intertwines two separate narratives: the emotional arcs of Tamako and Midori, and Choi's determined quest to find a suitable bride for the prince of the southern island. Note that certain components from the novel may be absent from the animated version. The plot focusing on Tamako and Midori takes place during their last year of high school. While classmates start thinking about their future careers, Tamako stays focused on her fondness for mochi. At the same time, Mochizou is preparing to study in Tokyo. Midori observes everything, burdened by her own private anxieties. Choi's story follows her unyielding search for the perfect bride for the prince. With the help of the now spherical Dera, she uses fortune-telling to locate the prince's fated partner, but their attempts come to nothing. One day, while searching the national library for information on divination methods, Choi and Dera come across a curious document.
