Sasahara, Kanji

Summary

Born on January 13 under the Capricorn sign, this character is a Type B blood user who goes by the pen name Benjamin Takeyo. His cultural tastes include the manga Hunter x Hunter and Berserk, the anime Patlabor the Movie, and video games such as Dragon Quest III and The King of Fighters '95. He also listened to Yen Town Band's "Ai no Uta" as his ringtone. Sasahara serves as the third president of Genshiken. Initially in denial about his otaku identity, he eventually accepts and embraces it. He has a strong affinity for hentai PC games, despite not owning a computer until volume 3. Upon succeeding Madarame as president, his first major decision is to advance the club's initiative by establishing their own booth at Comic-Fest. Although he represents a more standard otaku archetype, his unwavering loyalty to a single character from Kujibiki Unbalance, specifically Ritsuko Kübel Kettenkrad (also known as "The Chairman"), distinguishes him from his peers. Even the dōjinshi produced by Genshiken during his leadership is centered around Ritsuko. During his senior year, Sasahara steps down from the presidency to concentrate on his studies and job hunting, passing the role on to Ohno. He evolves from a quiet, reserved club member into a more resolute individual, particularly during his time as president. Although he struggles with self-doubt, he secures a position as a manga editor and overcomes his insecurities to confess his feelings for Ogiue. By the end of the manga, he is still dating Ogiue and accepts her use of him as a direct model for her dōjinshi. He also supports Ogiue by offering criticism and serving as an unofficial editor for her work, despite the potential strain this might place on their relationship.
