Joushima, Toshiya

Summary

Toshiya Joushima is a physician in his forties or fifties who enjoys working on cars during his free time. He forms the downhill driver for the Purple Shadow duo alongside Kouzou Hoshino. Known as the "God Hand," he possesses the unique skill of controlling a vehicle with precise steering and throttle inputs using only one hand on the wheel and the other on the gear stick. His driving style is intellectual, reminiscent of Ryousuke Takahashi, and he finds satisfaction in holding back his full potential. Joushima is capable of executing gutter jumps and manipulating his vector to confuse pursuers. When facing Takumi, the older driver initially toyed with him, concealing his true abilities to sow confusion and self-doubt. After Joushima set a tactical trap, Takumi recovered and reclaimed the lead. Astonished, Joushima abandoned his strategy and utilized his ultimate time attack line to pull ahead. Takumi broke his suspension in a desperate attempt to catch up, forcing him to limp down the mountain. However, Joushima’s fatigue from repeated downhill runs compelled him to make a vomit stop, allowing the damaged Trueno to claim a technical victory. Following the race, Joushima admitted that the pressure forced him to place his left hand back on the steering wheel for the first time. Although Takumi did not feel his win was entirely justified, he asked Joushima to ride in his S2000 on a subsequent run to study his technique. Joushima agreed, offering his final advice to the younger driver.
