Summary
Arisa Uotani is a sixteen or seventeen-year-old former member of a female gang known as "The Ladies." She became one of Tooru Honda’s closest friends after Tooru’s mother helped her escape the gang when Arisa decided she wanted out. Described as tough, brash, and occasionally violent, Arisa is surprisingly emotional and cries easily when her friends are involved. She typically wears long skirts, carries a lead pipe, and adopts a masculine speech pattern, using different word choices in Japanese that categorize her as male. Her hobbies include playing cards, swimming, and protecting Tooru from Yuki’s fangirls. Arisa’s hardened and jaded worldview stems from early family trauma; her mother abandoned her and her father for another man, leading her father to become an alcoholic after being rejected. This difficult past shaped her harsh personality until she met the kind Tooru and her mother, Kyoko. In her relationship with Tooru and her daughter Hana-chan, Arisa acts as an overprotective, parental figure, often presenting herself as the direct, brash "father."
