Tenshinhan

Summary

Tenshinhan is a fictional figure from the Dragon Ball manga created by Akira Toriyama. Originally trained by the Turtle Hermit’s rival, the Crane Hermit, he begins as an antagonist to Son Goku before becoming an ally. He is typically accompanied by Chiaotzu, his training partner and best friend, with whom he shares a telepathic connection. Tenshinhan possesses a distinct physical form, featuring a third eye on his forehead and the ability to sprout additional arms from his back or split into four separate entities. He entered the harsh Crane-Style School early in life, where he mastered ki-based techniques like the Dodonpa, Kikoho, and Taiyo-Ken. Additionally, the Crane Hermit’s younger brother, Tao Pai Pai, instructed him in deadly assassination skills. When he first appears, Tenshinhan ranks among the most powerful warriors in the series, rivaled only by Goku. Devoted to martial arts, reclusive, and disciplined, he is one of the strongest humans in the Dragon Ball world. He fights alongside the group to protect Earth from major threats, often courageously confronting enemies far stronger than himself. Like several other characters from the series’ early chapters, Tenshinhan was inspired by Journey to the West; his third eye was derived from the Chinese god Erlang Shen. According to the Daizenshuu book 7 and the PlayStation 2 game Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi, he is a descendant of the alien Three-Eyed clan.
