Yamaguchi, Kumiko

Summary

At twenty-three, Kumiko Yamaguchi has realized her lifelong ambition to become a teacher, though her position as the math homeroom teacher at Shirokin Gakuen Private Boys' High School presents significant challenges. Her class is populated by juvenile delinquents, mirroring the rest of the student body, and is led by the mysterious Shin Sawada, making it difficult for her to command respect and ensure they take their studies seriously. Complicating matters further is Vice Principal Goro Sawatari, who seems to root for her failure and occasionally sabotages her efforts. Few are aware of Kumiko’s true lineage, which would likely make people cautious around her. She serves as the acting Koumichou, or leader, of the formidable Ooedo Clan yakuza group. Her grandfather, Ryuichiro Kuroda, the previous Koumichou and her guardian since her parents died, has fallen ill, forcing Kumiko to step into the role. She is frequently accompanied by a group of overprotective henchmen, including Tetsu Asakura and Minoru Tatsuwaka, who address her as 'Ojou'. Kumiko must constantly assert her authority over these subordinates to keep them disciplined, a task made harder when they react violently to students mocking her on her first day. Kumiko possesses strong martial arts skills, which prove useful when former student Hiroki Kudoh returns to the school to assault the juniors, including Kuma. Despite her combat prowess, she must remain vigilant to keep her identity as the Ooedo Clan leader a secret. However, Shin suspects that Kumiko is hiding something unusual, requiring her to exercise extreme caution in his presence.
