Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Tatsuya Kimura stands at 171 cm with an equal reach, competing in the Junior Lightweight division. As a core member of the Kamogawa Boxing Gym alongside Makunouchi Ippo, Takamura Mamoru, Aoki Masaru, and Itagaki Manabu, he serves as Ippo’s senpai and Aoki’s best friend. Trained by Shinoda, Kimura fights in an orthodox stance utilizing an out boxer style characterized by rapid footwork and a swift left jab. Though he maintains a smooth, collected demeanor and is a romantic at heart, his work ethic is intense. He balances his boxing career with his real job at his family’s flower shop. His most notable bouts in the series are against Mashiba Ryou and Eleki Battery. Kimura and Aoki have been inseparable since kindergarten. During high school, they became notorious thugs who frequently clashed with students from rival schools, particularly North High, leading to their expulsion. Kimura suffered deeply from this outcome, fearing he had disappointed his mother. After a humiliating defeat at the hands of North High’s Takamura Mamoru, Kimura and Aoki were inspired by Takamura’s boxing prowess to join the Kamogawa Boxing Gym in pursuit of strength. Kimura’s descent into delinquency stemmed from bullying by an older boy; when his father intervened but was coerced into apologizing, Kimura lost all respect for him. This incident fueled his violence both at home and outside, prompting him to drop out of high school without his parents' knowledge.
