Summary
Ranko Hata serves as the head of the Newspaper Club and is a second-year student who advances to the third year, celebrating her birthday on November 23rd. In a series populated by energetic and lively girls, she stands out with a quiet, deadpan demeanor and a generally neutral expression. She occasionally smirks when she spots material suitable for her newspaper, though her default stoicism is so pronounced that she once had to use tape to force a smile for a Student Council photo session. Despite this calm exterior, she is actually quite animated, wacky, and comical in her behavior. As a dedicated journalist, Ranko takes her role seriously and is almost never seen without her camera, which she considers as vital as a part of her body. Her pursuit of scoops is defined by a distinct lack of morals; while she does not fabricate events outright, she readily tweaks information or photos to make stories more interesting. She is also willing to sell pictures to interested parties, having joked about selling images of sweaty judo club members, leaving others unsure if she was serious. Ranko frequently causes trouble for her own amusement or to gain a scoop, such as spreading the rumor that Kaede Igarashi is afraid of boys, which led Uomi to crossdress as a joke. She also intends to publish incriminating photos of Takatoshi regarding a sex toy left by Aria Shichijou, despite knowing he was innocent. Commonly, she deliberately mishears conversations to make them sound perverted, with Takatoshi, Shino, and Kaede being her frequent targets.
