Summary

In the Japanese version of Pokemon, Steven Stone is known as Daigo Tsuwabuki. He serves as the Elite Champion in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, while acting as a powerful wandering Trainer in Emerald after passing his title to Wallace. A master of Steel-type Pokemon, Steven relies on a Metagross as the foundation of his team. He is the son of the Devon Corporation president, and both he and his father are avid collectors of rare stones. Steven resides on Mossdeep City. Upon defeating the Elite Four in any of the Hoenn games, the player finds a Beldum and a note left behind by him. His sole appearance in the anime occurs in the episode A Hole Lotta Trouble, where he assists Ash, his friends, and Team Rocket in escaping an underground cavern. By the episode's conclusion, Ash resolves to train harder to eventually challenge Steven. In the Pokemon Adventures manga, Steven meets Ruby while exploring Granite Cave. During a fight with wild Mawile, Ruby’s Skitty knocks into one of Steven’s Moon Stones, triggering its evolution. Steven understands the threat posed by Team Magma and Team Aqua and invites Ruby to join the fight, but Ruby refuses due to his dislike for battling. Steven wears armlets on his arms that can chip away at stone, allowing him to retrieve rocks from inaccessible locations. Later, Steven reveals that he and his father have known about the organizations' schemes for a long time. Mr. Stone constructed the Submarine Explorer 1 so Steven could seal the Seafloor Cavern, preventing Kyogre and Groudon from awakening. If that plan fails, the backup strategy involves unsealing Regirock, Regice, and Registeel. Steven eventually gathers the rest of the Hoenn Elite Four to battle the legendary beasts. With assistance from Sapphire’s Wailord and Relicanth, they unseal the Regis. Steven takes control of Registeel, giving the other two Regis to his fellow Elite Four members. Anticipating death from the strain of the battle against Kyogre and Groudon, Steven relinquishes the Champion title to Wallace, who was the true Champion while Steven was merely a runner-up. After the legendary beasts return to their domains, Steven appears to die from controlling the Regis but is mysteriously revived when Ruby releases Celebi. He later travels to Sinnoh to collect rare stones, purchasing a villa which he sells to Platinum before returning to Hoenn at the start of the Platinum chapter. Steven uses his Metagross to fly across Hoenn, floating atop it thanks to its magnetic properties.
